td-conference

2008 l 2009 l 2010 l 2011

The annual Transdisciplinarity Conference (td-conference) is one of the central means

of the td-net to promote excellence in transdisciplinary research and teaching.
Its main aim is to provide a platform for the exchange between individuals and teams involved in trans-disciplinary projects on a diversity of issues (such as Public Health, migration, new technologies, climate change, globalisation and cultural transformation processes) so that they can learn from each other’s experiences and further develop integrative methods and approaches for knowledge-based solutions to pressing problems

in the life-world.

Since such a platform for regular encounters between transdisciplinary researchers is still lacking in Switzerland and elsewhere, the td-net plans to organise this international conference every year from 2008 onwards. For the years 2008-2011, the financing of the conference is guaranteed thanks to the generous support of the Stiftung Mercator Schweiz.
Extending over two days, the event will be organised in collaboration with a different Swiss university or research institute each year. The overall theme will be determined by the Scientific Board of the td-net who also elect the Steering Committee. As the conference should not only serve to further develop and strengthen transdiscipIinarity in Switzerland but should also act as a crystallization point for transdisciplinary projects in Europe and beyond, the conference language will be English.

At each conference, there will be 4-6 plenary talks or panels with invited and internationally renown experts from Switzerland and abroad as well as a number of paper sessions and/or theoretical and practical workshops around selected subthemes or fields where individuals or groups of researchers can present their projects. Every other year, the conference will include the ceremony of the biannual td-award in recognition of excellent transdisciplinary research, also funded by the Stiftung Mercator Schweiz.
