Leverage Points 2019. International conference on sustainability research and transformation
> 6-8 February 2019, Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany

Inspired by the work of Donella Meadows’ "Leverage Points: Places to intervene in a system", this conference will explore the deep leverage points that can lead to sustainability transformations, asking: how do we transform ourselves, our science, our institutions, our interventions and our societies for a better future? The conference is premised on three principles: 1) The importance of searching for places where interventions can lead to transformative change; 2) Open inquiry, exchange and co-learning across multiple theoretical, methodological and empirical research approaches; and 3) The need for reflection on modes of research and processes in sustainability research.

Deadline for abstract submission: 30 June 2018

Virtual workshop "Enhancing Collaboration: Fostering an Evidence-Based Approach to Improving Network Capacity"
> 26-27 February 2019, online

The workshop aims to lay the foundation for the next generation of SciTS. Of course, we will need to move thoughtfully but efficiently in exploring the problem space and generating and combining promising ideas if we are to create early-stage sketches of proposals for funded white papers, follow-up meetings, and research grants. To this end, we will use pre-workshop activities to set the stage and employ excellent facilitators and technology to maximize progress during the meeting.

AR+ Transformations Gathering (on Women's Day)
> 7-10 March 2019, Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden

The gathering convenes a new global community to enable creative interaction around the questions of how to do science/learning with stakeholders. If you’re engaged in creating transformative knowledge, emphasizing participation, (self-) inquiry, action and deeper values orientation, then you belong! The transdisciplinary work is not only seen as an alternative, but also as a complement, to conventional ways of doing “objective” science. The new community wants the research to be more useful in the crises of sustainability.

Association for Interdisciplinary Studies Conference 2019
> 24-26 October 2019, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The annual AIS conference will be hosted for the first time in Europe, by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), The Netherlands. The theme of the conference will be ‘Interdisciplinarity in Global Contexts’. Since a defining feature of interdisciplinarity is not to abstract or isolate problems but rather to approach them in their real-world contexts, this conference theme asks participants to consider the global and local contexts of interdisciplinary education and research.

AAAI Conference on Human Computation and Crowdsourcing (HCOMP 2019)
> 28-30 October 2019, Skamania Lodge, near Portland, USA

HCOMP is the premier venue for disseminating the latest research findings on human computation and crowdsourcing. While artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interaction (HCI) represent traditional mainstays of the conference, HCOMP believes strongly in inviting, fostering, and promoting broad, interdisciplinary research. The field is particularly unique in the diversity of disciplines it draws upon and contributes to, ranging from human-centered qualitative studies and HCI design, to computer science and artificial intelligence, to economics and the social sciences, all the way to digital humanities, policy, and ethics. We promote the exchange of advances in human computation and crowdsourcing not only among researchers, but also engineers and practitioners, to encourage dialogue across disciplines and communities of practice.
